He hates violence and he is terrified at the prospect of Muggles discovering magical creatures, because he fears that they'll be exploited and mistreated.

Various horses and horselike magical beasts kept on a large expanse of land where he keeps them safe. He doesn't refer to them as pets but sees them instead as 'Animal companions'. These animals are mostly rescues from one situation or another.
----»» FULL HISTORY: Zacharie was born on the grounds of Beaubaxtons, where his mother was teaching Care for Magical Creatures at the time. He spent most of his young life around the students and developed a feel for the castle long before he was due to be there. When he finally did turn eleven he grew nervous, suddenly he had to do more then stay out of trouble, now he was expected to work and socialize at the school. Zacharie found himself clinging to his mother most of the time.
The next chapter in Zacharie's life came when he came out as being homosexual at the age of fourteen. His intolerant mother disowned him quickly, and left the school due to her inability to accept her son for the person he was. This broke Zacharie's heart, and he became very depressed, not trusting people concerned that they'd think he was a freak, he went to the friends he had when he was younger, spending much of his free time with the magical creatures around the school, even to the point of helping the Care For Magical Creatures Teacher at the time, and becoming sort of an 'unofficial assistant'.
Zacharie never really interacted much with people until he met his first boyfriend, Pierre. When he met Pierre he came out of his shell a lot more, but really kind of failed at social interaction, he was awkward and nervous in social situations and the relationship came to a sad end when he unwittingly insulted Pierre by refusing to meet his family during the Christmas holidays instead of going home to a homophobic family. After this Zacherie continued to try to stay social but it never really worked out well for him, He never made many friends and he was quite the object of mockery.
After graduating from the school Zacharie looked to go to work with Animals, eventually landing a Minstery of Magic job, and starting to work his way up through the ranks.
